Planning Your Wedding Rehearsal Dinner
No matter what your budget is you can have a great Rehearsal dinner if you use a little ingenuity and imagination. Contrary to what you may think it doesn’t have to be formal or even a sit down dinner. The idea is for close friend and family of the happy couple to have one last get-together before the big event.
The great thing about a Rehearsal Dinner is that there are no set rules. Depending on your personality and budget you can create any type of dinner party you want.
Traditionally the Rehearsal Dinner is hosted by the groom’s parents. But it is now becoming more common for the bride and groom to host their own dinner.
If you are throwing your own party, here are some ideas you might want to consider.
Formal Party A formal Dinner is nice if you are having a small party for twenty people or less. You can host the party at your favorite resturant. Usually you allow your guests to order off the menu.
Pizza Party This is a fun idea for groups who want a very casual party. The party can be hosted at a friends home or at your favorite pizza parlor. A pizza party is a great way to relax your guests before the formal wedding.
Pot Luck Dinner If you are low on cash, a potluck dinner is a great idea. Ask your in-town guests to bring their favorite food and host a party at your home (or friends house). Be sure to organize in advance what your guests will bring. You would not want to end up with five plates of ham sandwiches and no desserts. A potluck dinner is a great way for friends and family to spend time together without going into debt.

Antique And Retro Style Wedding Gown Sleeves
Every bride looks forward to the day she begins shopping for her wedding gown. It’s a fun and exciting time! But 2010 wedding gown trends are not exactly covered in this article, as it is the rare wedding gown today that has sleeves.
However, for the bride searching for an antique wedding gown or a retro style wedding dress, these descriptions will be an invaluable asset. By learning a few of the terms and expressions used by those trained in the bridal industry in the last few decades, you will be better able to explain exactly what you visualize as the gown of your dreams.
Descriptions of Wedding Gown Sleeves
Bishop Sleeves are fuller in the lower forearm, and gathered with a wide cuff at the wrist. This is a style not found on current styles, but popular when looking for retro-styles.
Capped Fitted Sleeves are very short sleeves just cupping the shoulder with a rounded contour. These sleeves look best with slender, well-toned arms.
Dolman Sleeves produce a cape-like effect, extending from large armholes and often fitted at the wrist.
Gigot (Leg-of-Mutton) Sleeves appear as loose, full sleeves, rounded from the shoulder to just below the elbow, then shaped to the arm, often ending in a point at your wrist.
Illusion Fitted Sleeves appear as long, slender sleeves following the shape of the arm, made from illusion net and often encrusted with heavily beaded and sequined appliqués.
Melon Sleeves appear as a highly exaggerated puff, rounded from the shoulder to the elbow.
Off the Shoulder Sleeves features an exposed décolletage, leaving the top of the collarbone and cleavage exposed, while hiding the upper arm. This is a great sleeve for small and large brides alike and is very comfortable to wear.
Renaissance Sleeves appear with a slightly gathered puff at the shoulder, tapering down the arm to a point ending just below the wrist on the hand. Usually in satin, encrusted with appliqués of beads and sequins.
Short Sleeves are generally fitted sleeves, falling just short of midway between the shoulder and elbow. Short sleeves are slightly longer than cap sleeves.
Spaghetti Straps are not technically sleeves, but they do hold the gown up by thin, inconspicuous straps.
Tapered Sleeves appear as a slightly gathered shoulder with little fullness, tapering down the arm to the wrist.
T-Shirt Sleeves resemble the sleeves found on t-shirts, just as the name implies. For the bride not wanting long sleeves, but feeling self-conscious about her arms, the t-shirt sleeve is definitely a great option.
Three-Quarter Sleeves appear most often as fitted sleeves ending slightly below the elbow, midway between the elbow and wrist. This style has recently made a great comeback and is a classic feminine look.

Planning the Wedding Menu – In Search of the Ideal Wedding Feast
Setting a wedding menu can be a daunting task especially for someone who has never planned such an event before. There are many factors to consider when planning the wedding menu. The time and location of your wedding reception, the cost of the meal, the type of foods you want to serve, choice of a caterer, and theme of your wedding are among the most important factors to consider. Many of these decisions will have to be finalized with your fiance.
Time and location – If you’re having a late morning or early afternoon weekend reception, you would probably serve a brunch or lunch menu to your guests. For an evening reception, a dinner either buffet or sit down style can be planned. A cocktail party can even be an option which will shorten your reception time considerably.
Just as important is the location where the wedding reception will be held. Banquet halls, country clubs, reception halls, churches or even outdoor locations, ie. parks, beaches, can serve as your wedding venues. The choice of location will surely affect the type of food you serve.
Cost of the meal – The expenses for your meal will be greater if more options are offered. Dinner menu items such as Filet Mignon, lamb or seafoods will be pricier than if you were to offer chicken. Chicken is a popular menu item and modestly priced so this could be a good option if you have to keep the cost down.
Choice of a caterer – Discuss your wedding menu with your caterers and have them come up with recommendations. Make sure they are aware of the budget you set. Many caterers provide complimentary tasting to the bride and groom. You may also choose to include your favorite foods or those of family and friends. Couples may also want to offer non-red meat fare or vegetarian options.
Theme of your wedding – If a couple is getting married Hawaiian style, it would definitely be appropriate to serve a luau. Suggested menu for a luau includes roasted whole Kahlua pig, sweet and sour chicken, coconut rice, roasted vegetable salad, and tropical fruits. For a backyard wedding, barbecued chicken, ribs or pork or other traditional picnic foods ie burgers, hot dog, cole slaw, corn, potato salad can be included. Your wedding menu can also reflect the season of the year. Example: in the fall, depending on how cold the weather is, your guests will surely enjoy some soup ie Squash or Potato soup. Roasted turkey, cornish hen, or rib roast are all popular main meal items for the fall. Serve it with some form of pumpkin dessert.
Planning a wedding menu can be fun for some but can be overwhelming for others. There are many food ideas to consider for your wedding reception. Make the food you serve memorable. Balance flavor and texture of the food with eye-appeal. Serve popular menu items and plan your menus considering your guests’ preferences. And, let your menu reflect your ideal wedding feast.
